Eggs and Neonates on a green leaf

Oblique-Banded Leafroller is a major pest of tree fruit in the Pacific Northwest. The appearance of black head capsules in the egg mass signifies that hatch is imminent – usually within a day or two. Sure enough, here, two days after the black head capsules appeared we have neonate larvae. I actually got to watch some of the eggs hatch and see the larvae wiggle out of the egg shells.
